Burnham to speak
Gracia Burnham will speak on "Can Faith, Hope and Love Survive a Year of Terror?" at 4 p.m. March 5 at the Emporia United Methodist Church, 823 Merchant, Emporia.
As missionaries in the Philippines in 2001, Abu Sayyaf terrorists kidnapped Burnham and her husband, Martin. During their 376 days of captivity, the Burnhams faced near starvation, constant exhaustion, frequent gun battles, cold-hearted murder and intense soul-searching.
On June 7, 2002, in a firefight between the Philippine military and the Abu Sayyaf Group, Martin Burnham was killed. Gracia Burnham was injured, but freed.
Gracia Burnham has authored two books, "In the Presence of My Enemies" and "To Fly Again."
Anyone who has either book can bring them for Burnham to sign.
The public is invited to attend. There is no charge to attend. A free will offering will be accepted.
