Cards fall to Silver Lake again

When it comes to the Tonganoxie Invitational, the Eudora Cardinals haven’t had much luck. A year ago the team limped out of the tournament in last place, a finish that came at the hands of the Silver Lake Eagles. This time around, the Eagles didn’t wait until the seventh-place game to deal the Cardinals a loss, knocking Eudora into the loser’s bracket with a 50-43 defeat in the opening game of the tournament.

Mediation doesn’t end contract dispute

For the first time since declaring an impasse in teacher negotiations, representatives from the Eudora National Education Association and USD 491 met with a mediator last week to try to come to terms on a contract for the current year.

Rezoning request pits faith against flexibility

The Eudora City Council will be asked to rezone property north of the Intech Business Park for the Deer Valley subdivision, an 84-acre mixed residential and commercial development. The rezoning comes to the council with the planning commission’s 4-3 recommendation for approval.

Wrestling struggles at Basehor tournament

Eudora wrestling coach Bill DeWitt knew the field at the Basehor-Linwood Bobcat Classic on Saturday was going to be tough for all involved on his roster. Over the weekend his expectations held up as the Cardinals placed 18th in the tournament that consisted of 25 teams, including 4A power Andale and St. Thomas Aquinas, the eventual tournament champions.
Girls beat Silver Lake

Last year the first day of March was the last day of the Eudora girls’ basketball season as the Spring Hill Broncos bounced the Cardinals from the sub-state tournament. The Cardinals got a measure of redemption Thursday as they returned to Spring Hill and came away with a resounding Frontier League win, 60-44.

A late rally couldn’t help overcome ice-cold first-quarter shooting as Eudora saw its three-game winning streak end Friday at Spring Hill, 69-64. The Cardinals shot a meager 17 percent from the field in the first quarter, which allowed the Broncos to charge out to a commanding 19-8 lead.
