Eagle Scout project in the works
Eudora Scout Todd Roberts is working on his Eagle Scout service project and is seeking donations to help cover expenses.
Roberts plans to place a historical marker in Bluejacket Park at 12th and Cedar streets.
The marker, which will be a raised-letter plaque of cast aluminum and will explain the origin of the park that was named for ferry operator George Bluejacket, will complement the statue the Eudora Lions Club plans to erect of the city's namesake, Eudora Fish, for the celebration of the town's sesquicentennial in 2007.
Bluejacket was the brother of Charles, who was a Methodist minister and head chief of the Shawnee Nation in the 1860s. Their grandfather was the famous Shawnee war chief Bluejacket.
Roberts, who will be a senior at Eudora High School, said the project will cost around $2,200. He plans to donate any leftover monies from his fund-raising efforts to the Eudora Lions Club for its statue project.
