Family tradition

June 1, 2006

I attended the 50th wedding anniversary celebration May 28 of Gene and Mary Born. That in itself is an accomplishment to be commended.

The amazing and wonderful thing is that they were the seventh couple in the family of Philip and Mary Born -- who were also married more than 50 years -- who achieved this status.

There were 14 children in this St. Paul, Kan., family with no divorces and seven golden anniversaries -- George and Viola Born, Eudora, Edward and Theresa Born, El Dorado Springs, Mo., Robert and Regina Greenlee, Lawrence, Francis and Bernice Born, Eudora, Ernie and Pat Born, Nampa, Idaho, Max and Betty Roberts, Erie, and Gene and Mary Born, Eudora.

I am very proud of my family. Not only do I come from health genes, but they are all morally and spiritually sound. They have all taught me many things I can hopefully pass on to my children and grandchildren.

Congratulations to each couple for achieving the long haul.
