United Way sadds two agencies
Success By 6 and Meals on Wheels have been approved by the United Way of Douglas County Board of Directors as new member agencies and will begin receiving funding from the United Way in 2007.
Funds raised during the 2006-2007 United Way annual campaign will be allocated to the 26 member agencies in the early part of 2007.
Meals on Wheels provides hot nutritious meals to the homebound elderly and/or physically disabled who are unable to prepare their own meals. The meals help clients maintain their overall physical and mental health. In addition, the meals help clients remain independent and living in their own homes as long as possible.
Each week 550 meals are delivered by 100 volunteers who, while delivering meals, are checking on the welfare of the client and providing daily social contact.
Success By 6 Coalition's goal is to ensure that all Douglas County families with children under 6 have what they need to successfully parent their young children, thereby fostering positive parent-child relationships and preparing children for success in school and in life.
To accomplish this goal, the group brings together many agencies and groups along with resources, to help accomplish together what they cannot do as single agencies.
The Coalition has worked to start the Little Nation's Academic Center at Haskell and to create the Family Resource Team, an interagency effort to provide mental health services for very young children and their families.
