George L. Ryan
Services for George L. Ryan, 71, Parsons, were Wednesday at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens.
Mr. Ryan died Friday, June 16, 2006, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Mo.
Mr. Ryan was born Dec. 13, 1934, in Nevada, Mo., to Charles and Hattie May Ryan. He attended school in Nevada before serving in the U.S. Army. He later worked as a custodian in De Soto schools and was employed by Shawnee Mission Memorial Gardens. He moved to Parsons in 1981 and worked in the city sanitation department for 14 years before retiring.
He married Lucille Hicks in March 1958. He later married Nellie (Clark) McCracken on June 30, 1973, in Eudora. She preceded him in death in August 2005 and two grandchildren.
Survivors include four sisters, Judy Brokcoff, Dorothy Genslor and Velma May Johnson, all of Nevada, and Betty Thornburg, of Rich Hill, Mo.; four sons, Norman McCracken Jr., Parsons, Donald McCracken, Lansing, Steve McCracken, De Soto, and Ed McCracken, Parsons; three daughters, Velma Steinman, Jefferson City, Mo., Nelda Bass, Parsons, and Norma Coleman, Parsons; 20 grandchildren, and 13 great children.
