Elva M. Mitchell
Services for Elva May Mitchell, 93, De Soto, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel in De Soto. Burial will be at De Soto Cemetery.
Mrs. Mitchell died Monday, May 15, 2006, at her home.
She was born Dec. 29, 1912, in Ridgeway, Mo., the daughter of James and Lola Gillespie.
She graduated from Ridgeway (Mo.) High School and attended Marysville Teachers College for two years. She taught school for several years. She later worked at Electronic Research.
Mrs. Gillespie was a longtime member of Lenexa First Southern Baptist Church and was most recently a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Eudora.
She married Manly Glenn Mitchell Aug. 29, 1935. He died earlier.
Survivors include four sons, Larry Mitchell, Gardner, Jim Mitchell, Moore, Okla., Jerry Mitchell, Osawatomie, Bob Mitchell, Phoenix; three daughters, Norma Hoffine, Vancouver, Wash., and Carole Newport and Janie Gumm, both of De Soto; two brothers, Harold Gillespie and Charlie Gillespie; 24 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
Four brothers, Lee Gillespie, Paul Gillespie, Cecil Gillespie and Garland Gillespie; a sister, Elsie Gilpatrick; and a grandson, Scott Gumm, preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel, 32665 Lexington Ave., De Soto.
