Fund set up to support environmental projects
Retired Kansas University English professor Elizabeth Schultz has established a fund at the Douglas County Community Foundation to support local efforts to preserve and understand nature.
The Elizabeth Schultz Environmental Fund will provide up to $20,000 in grants in its first year. Schultz said she hopes the fund will inspire new thinking about the significance of the environment in daily life.
The foundation will take applications for funding until Oct. 1. Projects may address the fund's goals in scientific, cultural, educational, aesthetic or economic ways.
An advisory committee will review proposals. Kelly Barth, Boog Highberger, John Poertner, Laurie Ward and Schultz make up the group.
