Retirement for Mary Lou Heine is all about relaxation –- everyone’s relaxation. “I retired from my other job and I wanted to do something that would keep me active,” Heine said. After finishing her career at a large chemical company, she became a certified massage therapist and opened a spa just outside of town with her sister Joyce McMahon. McMahon is also a certified massage therapist.

The Eudora City Council at a rescheduled meeting Thursday approved contract language in advance of going out for bids on the city’s $3.8 million community and aquatic center. City Engineering consultant Brian Kingsley of BG Consultants presented the council with a list of options needing approval before the city could officially accept a bid for the project. Among the items, the city voted to waive building permit fees and provide the temporary utility fees for the project.

When discussing the possibility of raising sewer impact fees Thursday, Councilman Bill Whitten saw the Eudora City Council straddling a thin line. On one side, the city needs to remain affordable and attractive to developers. On the other, it also must generate money to build and maintain the infrastructure needed to grow. “You’re walking that fine line,” Whitten said. “We’re trying to, in a way, add a bit more revenue that’s going to be coming from development and new home buyers.

For some coaches, there is always uncertainty with how their team will perform from game to game. But Eudora High School football coach Gregg Webb said he knew the team would be a force to be reckoned with back in August during the scrimmage game. “I knew how well we were going to be during our scrimmage when I saw how good our defense was,” Webb said. “I always knew our offense would be able to move the ball well. The one thing we weren’t sure we had was the break-away play potential.”
