Holy family update

Members of Holy Family Church will collect clothes for a clothing drive at 4 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday at the church, 820 Birch St.


  • Members of Holy Family Church will clean the old church after 8 a.m. mass Saturday to prepare for the annual community caroling at 5 p.m. Dec. 10 at the old Catholic church, Ninth and Church streets.

  • A youth mass will take place at 5 p.m. Sunday at Holy Family Church for middle school and high school students and their parents.

Anyone planning to attend is asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the local food pantry.

The Knights of Columbus and the Rev. Tom Hesse will have a rosary and benediction at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Church, 820 Birch St.

The monthly Knights meeting will take place after the service.


  • Training for mass servers at Holy Family Church will be at 11 a.m. Sunday. Students in the fourth grade or older and any adult in the parish interested in serving the mass is welcome to attend.

A parent or guardian of each person under 18 receiving training should also be present for the training.


  • The feast of the Immaculate Conception is Dec. 8. It is a holy day of obligation. Mass will be at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. at Holy Family Church, 820 Birch St.

  • Holy Family Church will have an advent reconciliation service at 3 p.m. Dec. 17 at the church, 820 Birch St. All parishioners are invited to attend.

Several priests from the region will help with the service.

Other area advent reconciliation services are at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Corpus Christi in Lawrence; 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist in Lawrence; 7 p.m. Wednesday at Assumption in Baldwin City; and 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at Sacred Heart in Tonganoxie.
