Ruth E. Manly
Services for Ruth Eleanor Manly, 77, Paola, were Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Paola United Methodist Church. Burial was in Paola Cemetery.
Mrs. Manly died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006, at the Olathe Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 11, 1929, in Paola, the daughter of Leonard J. and Mary Erma Cutting Oyster. After her birth, the family moved to Osawatomie where her father owned and operated a filling station for a few years before moving back to Paola.
She grew up in Paola and graduated from Paola High School with the class of 1947. She enrolled in the Bethany Hospital Nursing Program and attended one year.
Mrs. Manly worked for a sewing factory in Paola before being employed at the Osawatomie State Hospital as a licensed mental health technician for 38 years before retiring.
From 1948 to 1972, she and her husband lived in Paola and from 1972 to 1997, they lived in Osawatomie before returning to Paola. She and her husband because foster parents and throughout the years cared for 12 children.
Mrs. Manly was a member of the Amazing Grace Choir, Shamrock Study Club, Eastern Star and was a member of the Paola United Methodist Church. She was involved with 4-H, Girl Scouts and the Brownie Troop.
She married Donald R. Manly on Jan. 17, 1948, in Paola. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include six daughters, Maryellen Guilford, Leavenworth, Marjorie Powell, Paola, Donna Stewart, Kansas City, Kan., Tina Cook, Osawatomie, and Patty Ray and Brenda Greving, both of Osawatomie; a sister Rita Conner, Eudora; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Two sisters, Mary Alice Buhrman and Loree Protzman, preceded her in death.
