EHS hosting blood drive
The Eudora High School student council will have a community blood drive from 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 27 in the commons area at Eudora High School, 2203 Church St.
Any high school student who donates blood will be eligible to win a 2000 Firebird from Laird Noller in Lawrence.
All donations through the Community Blood Center benefit local hospital patients. The blood center needs to collect 580 units of blood each day to meet the needs of local hospitals.
Donors must be at least 16 years of age, weigh 110 pounds, and be in good health. Donors are asked to eat well and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating. In addition, they are asked to bring identification like a Community Blood Center donor card or driver's license.
Some individuals may not be able to donate because of recent tattoos or body piercing. Any individual who has had a tattoo are deferred from donating for one year after receiving a tattoo. Ear piercing and belly button piercing are accepted as long as a professional utilizing a piercing gun did the piercing. Any other body piercing or non-professional piercing has a one-year deferral as well.
Community Blood Center staff perform various health checks on all donors including temperature, blood pressure and hemoglobin. All donors also receive cholesterol results, which are mailed to the individual's home four to six weeks after their donation.
To make an appointment online, go to www.esavealifenow.org and use sponsor code eudorahs, or call Eudora High School counselor Paul Walrod at 542-4986.
Walk-ins are also welcome.
