Marvin L. “Hans” Beem

Services for Marvin L. "Hans" Beem, 70, Eudora, were Saturday, Oct. 14, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence. Burial was at Eudora City Cemetery.

Mr. Beem died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at his home.

He was born Nov. 23, 1935, in Washington County, the son of Edward A. and Dorothy A. Grancer Beem. He attended school in Barnes.

Mr. Beem served in the U.S. Navy. He was a union heavy equipment operator in the road construction business.

He worked for Palmyra Township and retired from the Douglas County Road and Bridge Department in 1992. He drove a school bus for the Eudora school district after he retired until May 2006. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Eudora, the National Rifle Assn. and a former member of Eudora Lions Club.

He married Mary E. Long on June 18, 1960, in Miami, Okla. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Machaela Watson, Eudora; a brother, Donald Beem, Edwards, Mo.; two sisters, Norma Klossen, Lee's Summit, Mo., and Betty Rosebaugh, Barnes; a daughter-in-law, Mary Rose Beem, Eudora; mother-in-law, Fern Long, Eudora; two brothers-in-law, John Long, San Antonio, Texas, and Duane Hayes, Eudora; three grandchildren; and a step-grandchild.

A son, Matthew L. Beem, died in 2004, and a brother-in-law, Bill Long, Stuart, Fla., died Oct. 15, 2006.

The family suggests memorials to First Southern Baptist Church Building Fund, Heart of America Hospice or the Center for Basic Cancer Research, sent in care of the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1260, Lawrence 66044.
