Thomas C. Elmer

Services for Thomas Clarence Elmer, 63, Kansas City, Kan., were Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawnee. Burial was in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan.

Mr. Elmer died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, at the Houston Hospice in Houston, Texas.

He was born Feb. 23, 1943, at his family's home in Leavenworth, the son of Thomas R. and Irma Elmer.

Mr. Elmer graduated from Kansas University with an English degree. He served two years in the United States Army as a sergeant and as a journalist/photographer for the military newspapers. He made his career selling lumber, the last four years at Teague Lumber Company.

He was a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Dara Elmer; two daughters, Lisa Renae Elmer and Cara Nichole Elmer; his mother, Irma Elmer; seven brothers, Jim Elmer, his twin brother Tim Elmer, Bill Elmer, Steve Elmer, Mark Elmer, Tony Elmer and Wayne Elmer; and four sisters, Ann Hurt, Rosalie Goodwin, Helen Newton and Alicia Hayes.

A daughter, Tina Janel Elmer, his father, and a brother, Edward Elmer, preceded him in death.

The family suggests memorials to the Greater Kansas City Community Cancer Foundation or the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, sent in care of Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, 214 Oak St., Bonner Springs 66012.
