New Testament study group forming
September 7, 2006
Last Spring, Ulysses Castillo made a challenge to those attending Eudora United Methodist Church’s “The Bible From Scratch: The Old Testament for Beginners.” The challenge wasn’t spoken, but it cut to the core of the group he hosted with Marcia Bagby. He maintained normal people could understand the Bible, even if it was written for a first century culture.
Eudora revs up for Bikers for Babies run
September 7, 2006
They’re back. Loud leather-clad throngs of motorcyclists will again fill the streets Sunday like herds of rumbling buffalo. The bikers are in town for the 12th annual March of Dimes Bikers for Babies charity ride.
Students give thumbs up to modular classrooms
September 7, 2006
Jake Schaffer didn’t know what to think. Like his classmates, the Eudora Middle School sixth-grader had a lot of new things going on. He had to adjust to a new building and a new style of learning. He no longer had just one teacher and the school was much bigger. He also found out one of his classrooms was connected to the school by a wooden walkway.

The cooler weather gave us a hint, but it was the signs hanging from the Laws Field fence facing Church Street that loudly announced fall was here despite what the calendar might say.

Cardinal runners take off
Graff second for girls; Chino second, Burns third for Eudora boys
September 7, 2006
After several months of logging hundreds of miles in the grueling summer heat, the Eudora High School cross country teams have something to show for their diligence. But with the thermostat reading a comfortable 77 degrees, the girls and boys cross country teams placed third and fourth, respectively, Thursday in the first meet of the season at the Anderson County Invitational in Garnett.

Eudora blows past league foe Osawatomie in season-opening rout
September 7, 2006
There really aren’t too many better ways to start the season. Eudora rushed for 258 yards as the Cardinals crushed the Osawatomie Trojans 42-0 Friday night at Laws Field to open the season.
Cardinals hope for a repeat of ‘05 against Vikings
September 7, 2006
After a first game shutout against the Osawatomie Trojans, the Eudora football team revisits a team it almost shutout last year, the Central Heights Vikings. The game concluded last year 61-6, with the Cards making only one mistake the whole game, letting Viking quarterback Gus Wertz connect with receiver Tony Wilson for a 36-yard catch that resulted in the Vikings throwing up six points on the scoreboard. That was it, and the game was more-or-less over.
Cardinals remain optimistic despite 3-0 De Soto loss
September 7, 2006
The Eudora soccer team circled De Soto alone among its long list of 2006 opponents. Coaches Matt Higgins and Paul Thevarajoo said beating the Wildcats would play a huge role in their plan to take Eudora from a perennial bottom dweller to the top of Class 4A. The team’s first opportunity to knock off De Soto came and went Thursday, however, as the Cats again bested the Cardinals (1-1-1), 3-0.
