Dessie A. Funk

Services for Dessie A. Funk, 86, were Friday, Sept. 1, at the First United Methodist Church in Abilene, with the Rev. Jim Edwards officiating. Burial was in the Abilene Cemetery.

Mrs. Funk died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, in Lawrence.

She was born Nov. 30, 1919, in Valentine, Neb., the daughter of Joseph and Estal Gray Rector. As a small child, her family moved to Abilene.

Mrs. Funk worked for Duckwall Retail Store. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

She married Oscar Richard Markley in 1938. They divorced in 1945. She married Henry Funk on March 6, 1961. They moved to Bakersfield, Calif., before returning to Abilene in 1973. He died Nov. 21, 1992.

Survivors include a daughter, Charlene Long, Eudora; two sons, Gordon Markley, Prescott, Ariz., and James Markley, Marquette; six brothers, Herbert Rector, Arthur Rector, Everett Rector and Clarence Rector, all of Abilene, Harold Rector, Enterprise, and Clifford Rector, Chapman; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A sister, Della Mae Rector, and three brothers, Deward Rector, Robert Rector and Charles Rector, preceded her in death.

The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church, sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home, P.O. Box 758, Abilene 67410.
