Public information meetings

September 28, 2006

The public is encouraged to attend one in a series of meetings to explain the importance of the ECO2 plan to the residents of Douglas County. The ECO2 Commission is seeking public comment on the plan.

The meetings will take place at the following times and places:

Oct. 5: Douglas County Extension Office, 2110 Harper St., Lawrence, 7 p.m.

Oct. 9: Baldwin City Public Library, Baldwin City, 7 p.m.

Oct. 12: Bert Nash Center, Room A & B, 200 Maine St., Lawrence, 7 a.m.

Oct. 12: Eudora Township Fire Department, 310 E. 20th St., Eudora, 7 p.m.

Oct. 19: Lecompton Community Building, 333 Elmore, Lecompton, 7 p.m.

For the past six years, a group of community leaders, representing a broad spectrum of viewpoints, have met to develop both an Industrial and Open Space Plan that will meet the need of identifying and preserving each. This has been a hand-in-hand process of understanding the need for both and understanding the challenges of each.

A draft plan has been completed and presented to the Lawrence City Commission and the Douglas County Commission. The next step is to present the plan to the general public.

For more information, call ECO2 vice chairman Trudy Rice at 843-7058 or e-mail trice@oznet.ksu.edu.
