Fortunately for the Eudora softball team, the Cardinals nailed those three aspects of the game not once, but twice Tuesday night against Prairie View, coach Cara Kimberlin said.

The Eudora Ministerial Alliance food pantry’s shelves were almost barren early Saturday morning when coordinator Laura Klotz arrived, she said. But starting about 9 a.m. wave after wave of canned goods started filling in the empty spaces. Boxes and sacks of food came through the doorway at St. Paul United Church of Christ stuffed with donations from the community.

No contest for Eudora council race

With no write-in candidate making an appearance, the three open seats on the Eudora City Council went to the only three candidates on Tuesday’s ballot. The most votes went to Councilman Jeff Peterson who received 271, or 35.8 percent of the 757 votes cast.

The Kansas Legislature agreed last week to tap the resource of casino gambling. After long debate and many failed attempts, the Legislature passed a bill, which Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has promised to sign, to allow slot machines in the state’s failing horse and dog tracks and the eventual construction of four casinos.

After polls closed Tuesday, it became clear three incumbents –- Joe Pyle, Kenny Massey and Mark Chrislip –- would return to the Eudora USD 491 Board of Education. Newcomer Belinda Rehmer will join the board, replacing board member Greg Neis.
