Group gearing up for annual variety show
Expect a bigger cast and more talent at this year's Eudora St. Paul United Church of Christ's annual variety show.
The performance of "Showtime" will be at 7 p.m. April 14 in the auditorium at Eudora Middle School, 2635 Church St.
Tickets are $5 each with the proceeds donated to the Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry, which is housed at St. Paul.
The cast of this year's show is double that of last year's, said Cathy Box, an adult sponsor of the variety show. And the cast wants to duplicate the fund-raising success of 2006, which is the reason for the show, she said.
To help boost the fund-raising, a handmade quilt will be auctioned off along with other items to benefit the food pantry.
"Last year, we raised a little more than $1,500," Box said. "This was enough to give 60 families food vouchers form the food pantry.
"At the end of 2006, roughly $3,000 in vouchers were given out to 149 local families. If we had not raised this money, half of those people would not have been able to receive these vouchers, which allows them to go to C&S Market to purchase milk, cheese, eggs and other food items not found in the food pantry."
The youth give their own personal time for the practices, shifting family, school and work obligations to bring the variety show to the community, Box said.
