Film series features Women Around the World
The April film series at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St., will feature four international films directed by women that explore the lives of women in the cultural and social contexts of their countries.
The films will be shown on a big screen at 7 p.m. on Friday nights in April in the library auditorium.
Before each film, Catherine Preston, Associate Professor of Film in the Kansas University department of theatre and film, will briefly discuss the importance of these films as women's stories told through the point of view of women. Women's roles in the family and status in society and culture provide unique experiences, challenges and opportunities, and each of the filmmakers brings her own experiences as a woman to illuminate and sharpen the images of the women in their stories.
For dates, titles and descriptions of each film, see the Lawrence Public Library Web site at www.lawrencepubliclibrary.org.
Popcorn will be provided and beverages may be brought in. The showings are free and open to the public.
