Relay teams forming
Douglas County residents are invited to the American Cancer Society Relay For Life June 8 at Free State High School in Lawrence.
The Relay is a unique fund-raising event where teams take turns walking the track for 12 hours in an effort to fight cancer.
The ceremony begins with a cancer survivors' lap at 7 p.m. The lap honors the courage of all who have defeated cancer. The survivors walk, or wheelchair the opening lap -- unified in victory and in hope.
Any cancer survivor who would like to take part in the Relay For Life of Douglas County is asked to call Alicia Reed at (785) 864-7771 or email email@example.com by April 15. Participating survivors receive a free commemorative Relay For Life T-shirt.
Teams of eight to 15 participants are needed to take turns walking the track during the event. Entertainment, games, prizes and team-building experiences are all a part of the fun.
To register a team, call Lori Kloepper at (785) 876-2306 or email firstname.lastname@example.org before the April 15 deadline.
