Wheat freeze injury field day
A "Wheat Freeze Injury Field Day" will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at Lone Pine Ag Services, 1557 E. 100 Road, Lecompton, one-and-a-half miles west of Stull.
Stu Duncan, KSU Northeast Area Extension Specialist for Crops and Soils, will be at the field day to lead the discussion on the wheat damage. Farmers are invited to bring samples of their wheat to the field day. The samples should be dug the morning of the field day, and should include whole plants with four to five inches of roots attached.
Individuals who would like to research freeze damage to wheat can locate a KSU Extension publication, "Spring Freeze Injury to Kansas Wheat" on the Douglas County Extension web site at www.oznet.ksu.edu/douglas. Look under "Program Areas," "Crops and Livestock," "Hot Topics," and click on "Freeze Injury." A copy may also be picked up at the extension office at 2110 Harper in Lawrence.
