Tractor safety course
The annual Hazardous Occupation Training, or Tractor Safety Course, will be from 7 to 9 p.m. April 30 and from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 12 at the Johnson County Extension Office, 11811 S. Sunset Drive, Suite 1500, Olathe. The Douglas, Leavenworth and Johnson County extension services cooperate to sponsor the training.
The training is required by law for those 14 and 15 years of age who will be operating a tractor on a farm owned by anyone other than their parent or legal guardian. Others, including inexperienced youth and adults who plan to work for farmers are invited and encouraged to attend the training.
Farmers who intend to hire 14- and 15-year-old youth should make sure they have the youth take the course before they hire them.
The cost for the training is $15, which pays for the text/workbook and refreshments. Registration should be made at the Douglas, Johnson or Leavenworth County extension offices by April 23 to pick up text/workbooks so the first two chapters can be read prior to the first class.
For more information, call Douglas County Extension Agent Doug Wood at 843-7058 or Johnson County Extension Agent Dan Lekie at (913) 715-7012.
