Cell phone collections

April 26, 2007

Douglas County Senior Services is collecting used cell phones that can be modified to call 911 dispatchers only.

The phones will be given to senior citizens who want to be able to use a cell phone for emergencies but can't afford or don't want a regular cell phone plan. The phones will only be able to call 911.

Senior Services also is partnering with Shelter Alliance of Miramar, Fla., which specializes in logistics and underwriting of fund-raising programs through the collection and recycling of used cell phones. The money received from the recycled phones will help benefit seniors of Douglas County and the senior center.

Cell phone drop boxes can be found at the following locations in Eudora:

  • Eudora City Hall, 4 E. Seventh St., Eudora
  • Eudora Public Library, 14 E. Ninth St., Eudora
