Several weeks ago, I got a call from an elderly woman. Her story was of a kind that we hear from time to time. She told of a man who showed up at her door about two months earlier, saying he was from Medicare. He had important information.

Starting next May, citizens could know who will hold the city’s top jobs for the next two years.
That’s because the Eudora City Council passed a charter ordinance Monday to change how the city appoints department heads.
Currently, the mayor appoints department heads with the consent of the council for one year during the first meeting in July.

Elaney Pickering surrounds herself with animals. On Monday evening, she spent time with her dogs and a white cockatiel. The 13-year-old also cares for another bird, rabbits and two cats, but her newest additions were furry mountains of stuffed animals stacked around her and her 8-year-old sister, Elyssa Conrad.

You wouldn’t be able to tell by the thermometer — it repeatedly pushed into the triple digits — but the Eudora football team’s summer came to a close Monday.
As teams all around Kansas begin their fall practices on Monday, the Cardinals began preparations for what they’re hoping will be another solid season. Coming off a highly successful 11-1 season which included a Frontier League Championship, undefeated regular season and a run in the state playoffs, Eudora, under the direction of coach Gregg Webb, is anxious to get things going.

With the hot summer seemingly reaching its apex, not many people are quite in the running mind frame.
However, the Eudora High School cross country team is gearing up with exactly the opposite approach as it heads into the 2007 season. Lead by head coach Paul Boone, the Cardinal runners are hoping to make their own mark despite losing several key runners to graduation.
