Obituary: Joe H. Bales

1918-2007

Memorial services for Joe H. Bales, 89, Lawrence, will be hosted by the family in November. Cremation has taken place.

Mr. Bales died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, at Eudora Nursing Center.

He was born June 18, 1918, in Whiting, the son of Earnest and Lydia Castle Bales. He graduated from Whiting High School, where he lettered in basketball.

Mr. Bales served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines and the Aleutian Islands. He served as a sergeant for five years. He owned and operated Bales Electric in Lawrence for 45 years.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 852.

Mr. Bales married Mini Lee Childers on May 18, 1944. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, David Bales, Lawrence; a daughter, Linda Bales, Lawrence; and a granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his first-born son, Joe Bales, in 1961.

The family suggests memorials to Southern Care Hospice, 1440 Wakarusa Drive, Lawrence 66049.
