Lighting ceremony, ribbon cutting at City Hall
A lighting ceremony at City Hall and a ribbon cutting at the Community Center brought out Christmas in Eudora
Many people in Eudora braved the cold Sunday as the city welcomed the holiday season.
There was a ribbon cutting and grand opening for the Eudora Community and Aquatic Center followed that evening by a flashlight parade with Santa, culminating with a downtown lighting ceremony at Eudora City Hall.
Kids visited with Santa at the Community Center during performances by the Eudora High School choir and the Eudora High School jazz band.
"We had a good turnout," Parks and Recreation Director Tammy Hodges said. "There are a lot more people than I expected for a cold day"
Hodges said the center would be open Sundays beginning Jan. 7 and that she expects more gym memberships as a result of New Year's resolutions.
The community center also provided cookies and punch for those in attendance and made sign-ups available for dance classes as well as their Christmas camp program.
"It's beautiful," said Mayor Tom Pyle. "It's been well received and the people that are here are really happy. We've had a good turnout today and one thing that I've been hearing people say is that Eudora didn't waste its money on this."
