City council meeting canceled as ice storm approaches
Tonight's city council meeting has been postponed because of an ice storm warning beginning at 6 p.m. tonight and continuing until midnight Tuesday.
The city had a staff meeting in preparation for the storm and the Red Cross already has delivered cots to Eudora City Hall in an instance where downed power lines cause residents to be evacuated.
Emergency locations will be at city hall, with second and third locations at the Eudora Community Center and Nottingham Elementary School.
The emergency travel route will be Church Street, 10th Street, Winchester Road and Main Street, with secondary routes set up to get to and from the Eudora Nursing Center and Pinecrest Apartments.
Eudora City Administrator Cheryl Beatty said all emergency equipment was fueled up and or otherwise checked.
The city also did a complete check to make sure all power lines were cleared of any tree limbs that could fall and cause a power outage.
City officials recommend that all residents stay in their homes as much as possible during this inclement weather.
