The Eudora girls basketball team has hit a bit of a slump. After a 10 day break from games, the Cardinals lost Friday to rival Baldwin 47-38 and then Tuesday to Ottawa, 56-32.

Youth takes advantage for wrestling program

With a winning varsity record and a lineup comprised mainly of seniors, the Eudora wrestling team will have some fairly big gaps to fill next season. But if the Anderson County dual tournament’s results proved anything, it’s that the younger wrestlers will step up and fill those future holes in the varsity team sooner rather than later.

Baseball-first attitude hasn’t slowed Boyer’s hardwood development

Eudora High School junior Kelson Boyer considers himself a baseball guy. His favorite time of year is spring when both Major League Baseball and high school baseball seasons start. He plans on playing baseball in college — he’s hoping to get into the University of Miami or Florida State, and is hoping to have a major league career. That hasn’t stopped him from enjoying playing basketball for the Cardinals.

The Eudora Quilt guild went to The Barn at Valley Falls last week. Twenty-five ladies attended in all, several for all three days, and some came just for a day. Everyone had a great time and accomplished a lot of quilting.

Funeral services for Stephen W. Zimmerman, 57, Lawrence, were Monday, Feb. 5, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lawrence. Mr. Zimmerman died Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, at his home.

In October, citizens will experience a party 150 years and nine months in the making. The Eudora 150th Anniversary Committee began making plans for Eudora’s sesquicentennial celebration Jan. 21. “Tonight we’re going to be about sharing ideas,” Eudora City Administrator Cheryl Beatty said.

To keep her students engaged in class, Eudora High School teacher Jennifer Perez crafts her English lessons to encompass more than words. “I have the philosophy that English doesn’t have to be boring,” Perez said. The fact was exemplified by rows of projects lining her classroom Monday afternoon.
