Middle school basketball

February 15, 2007

The Eudora Middle School seventh-grade varsity boys battled hard for a half and ran out of gas Feb. 5 in its game against Wheatridge in Gardner, losing 50-30.

Eudora was down by five at the half, but Wheatridge came out storming at the beginning of the third quarter, widening the gap quickly.

Brennan Williams led in both scoring and rebounding with 12 and eight, respectively. Jordan Ballock scored 10. Ryan Leary, Lucas Becker and Chris Pyle had two each. Derek Webb and Mike Hatton had one apiece.

The team lost a close one to the Baldwin Bulldogs, 30-26, on Monday. Despite a great third-quarter effort, it just wasn't enough, going 0-2 versus the Cards' rival this season. Eudora was led by Williams with 13 points Webb had four. Ballock finished with three. Carter Olson, Becker and David Pierce had two each.

The team travels to Central Heights Thursday.

  • The Baldwin Bulldogs proved to be too much to handle for the junior varsity white squad Monday as Eudora went down 38-19.

Christian Turnbaugh and Mike Hatton each had six points for Eudora. Brock Miller had five and Garrett Zook had two.

The junior varsity red team travels to Central Heights Thursday.

  • The eighth-grade varsity team spotted Baldwin too big of a lead Monday to climb back into things. A big halftime deficit led to the 40-28 loss for the Cardinals.

Coach Kevin Wade said amazing effort on both ends of the court helped the Cardinals climb back in the game in the second half, but timely shooting and big rebounds by Baldwin kept Eudora at bay.

The Cardinals conclude the home portion of the season with a tilt versus Central Heights Thursday. They then hit the road to Ottawa for tournament play opening up with Wellsville Saturday morning at Ottawa Middle School.
