Co-op board meets
The regular meeting of the East Central Kansas Cooperative in Education Board of Directors took place Feb. 13 at the Cooperative Central Office in Baldwin City. Members present were Blaine Cone, Susan Rader, Ande Parks, Ardith Bell, director Caren Lowe and Sue Martin, clerk of the Board. Kenny Massey and Jim Martin were unable to attend.
Board president Blaine recommended tabling the director's evaluation and contract extension until next month in order to give all members an opportunity to be present.
Bell made a motion to approve the additional paraeducator support at Nottingham Elementary School for Jennifer Herrington's Preschool Enhancement Program class. Parks seconded the motion, which carried by a 4-0 vote.
Cone made a motion to approve a paraeducator contract for Samantha Cheek at Nottingham Elementary School. Bell seconded the motion and it passed by a 4-0 vote.
Board members were able to review the preliminary budget and assessment for fiscal year 2008.
Following much discussion, Bell made a motion that paraeducators not be offered health insurance at this time. Rader seconded the motion and it carried by a 4-0 vote.
Rader made a motion to accept the resignation of Carol Linhos, Marion Springs IRR teacher at the end of 2006-2007. Bell seconded the motion and it passed by a 4-0 vote.
Members expressed interest in processes for decision making, updates on ongoing matters and program or student activities.
The East Central Kansas Cooperative in Education is the special education cooperative that serves Eudora, Baldwin and Wellsville.
