Members of Boy Scout Troop 64 of Eudora took part in the Pelathe District Winter Camporee "Glacial Glutes," Feb. 16 to 18 at the Fraternal Order of Police grounds near Lone Star Lake. The event had a mountain man theme and included activities in black power shooting, tomahawk throwing, knife throwing, spear throwing, flint and steel fire making and archery. There were also demonstrations on blacksmithing and tepee construction. The Scouts put their cold weather camping skills into practice with the temperatures in the single digits on Saturday and Saturday night. A big campfire was made on Saturday evening.
Troop 64 Scouts attending were Justin Male, Jonathan Morrison, Tom Stanley, Lyle Howell, Joseph Walker, Colin Forsberg, Alex Whitten, Devon Middleton, Nathan Bradley, Conner Bradley and Nathan Gentleman, along with Scoutmaster Glenn Jackson, assistant Scoutmasters Jim Morrison and Jerry Criqui and parents Damon Bradley, Tim Middleton and Duane Gentleman.
John Scott, Pelathe District Commissioner, accompanied by Venture Scout Kathy Lewis of Crew 2052, attended the camporee during the day on Saturday and Sunday.
Lewis took first place in archery for her Venture Crew with a score of 48 out of 50.
Troop 64 is sponsored by the Eudora Lions Club and meets at 7 p.m. Mondays at the Eudora Community Learning Center, 10th and Main streets. Any boys 11 or older are welcome to attend.
