Volunteers needed

February 22, 2007

The Roger Hill Volunteer Center, a service of United Way of Douglas County, and its "Why Wait to Read?" Giving Library are seeking volunteers to help with the 10th annual "Read Across America" event. The volunteers will read children's books aloud to elementary school children as well as direct them in arts and crafts activities at participating after-school programs.

In addition, volunteers will help each child pick one book from the library to take home with them as a gift.

Read Across America focuses the country's attention on the importance of motivating children to read. The nationwide reading celebration takes place each year on March 2, which is the birthday of children's author Dr. Seuss.

Anyone interested in helping is asked to call Maggie Bixler at 865-5030 or e-mail volunteer@rhvs.org.
