Annual derby results

January 25, 2007

Eudora Cub Scout Pack 3064 had its annual Pinewood Derby Jan. 20 at Nottingham Elementary School.

Despite the dismal weather outside, the atmosphere inside was full of energy and excitement. The derby is a friendly competition that allows the boys opportunities to learn about sportsmanship by racing hand-made wooden cars on a downhill track.

In the process of making the cars the boys have the opportunity to do some cutting, sanding and painting with just enough adult supervision to keep things safe.

Other than meeting certain specifications for size and weight, the cars can take on any shape or form.

This year's entries were full of imagination. Several looked like hotdogs, stock cars, classics, skateboards and sharks.

Crowd favorites emerged and the boys would enthusiastically cheer their racers on.

Certificates were awarded in an array of categories like "Best Paint," "Best Finish," "Most Humorous," and "Most with The Force."

Overall winners were Tyler Herman, first; Hunter Darling, second; and Chance Carpenter, third.
