Venture Crew 2052 camped out June 23 and 24 in Pilot Grove, Mo. They participated in two training hikes, one on the Katy Trail, to prepare for their July Philmont trip. They also attended a National Junior Rodeo whose participants were 18 and younger.
Scouts present were Hannah Bain, Caitleen Desetti, Carol Fittell, Kelsey Taylor, Catherine Kiernan (youth), Mikkayla Kunkle and Nadia Scruggs, Baldwin City. Adult advisors were Linda Kiernan, Ralena McCurdy, Eudora, and Audrey Taylor.
Boy Scout Troop 65 in Baldwin City hosted the Pelathe District's annual Webelos Graduation Weekend, May 11-13 at Spring Creek Park at Old City Lake.
The event, organized by adult leader Mark Shuck, drew 95 Cub and Webelos Scouts from throughout the Pelathe District, which is Douglas County. Participating Cub Scout packs were 3013, 3052, 3055, 3057, 3064, 3065 and 3072. Troop 65 was assisted by Troop 64, of Eudora, and Venture Crew 2652, of Lawrence.
The Cubs and Webelos participated in activities including wood tools, nature, engineering, plants, cooking, fire building, first aid, storytelling, knots, branding, Target First Class, and Tenderfoot 101.
Ian Kirk, Nathan Clem, Jacob Brungardt and Dylan Slavin, all second-year Webelos with Pack 3065, crossed over into Troop 65 at the campout. The campout also featured an Arrow of Light bridging ceremony, potluck dinner, cooking contest, evening campout, trading post and a Sunday camp chapel led by the Rev. Kirby Hays, of Baldwin City.
The Eudora News has prints of its photographs available for purchase. The cost for a five-by-seven-inch photo is $8 plus tax, and eight-by-ten photos are $12 plus tax.
