Obituary: Stephania Slapar
Graveside services for Stephania Licci Slapar, 100, McCune, were Tuesday, July 10, at Highland Park Cemetery in Pittsburg with Jan Yoger officiating.
Mrs. Slapar died Friday, July 6, 2007, at Heritage Nursing Home in Girard.
She was born Jan. 2, 1907, in Germany, the daughter of Stephan Bartholomew and Maria Kramer Licci. The family immigrated to the United States in 1909 and came through Ellis Island, where the family name is listed on the Immigrant Wall of Honor. They settled in the Pittsburg area.
She and her husband moved to a small farm in Barton County, Mo., and began farming. They moved to a farm in the McCune area in 1930 where they ran a diversified farming operation.
Mrs. Slapar moved to Girard in 1990 from McCune. She lived with her daughter until 2006 when she moved to the Heritage Nursing Home.
She was a homemaker and a member of Kansas Farm Bureau and SNPJ for more than 70 years.
She married Frank Slapar on Nov. 20, 1926, in Chicopee. He died Nov. 30, 1978.
Survivors include two sons, Earl Robert Slapar, Eudora, and Frank Milton Slapar, Pittsburg; two daughters, Karolyn Hanks, Girard, and Marilyn Wade, Pittsburg; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A brother, Theodore "Eddie" Licci, a sister, Mary Marie Babcock, and a son-in-law, James M. Wade, preceded her in death.
