Mary C. Grosdidier


A memorial mass for Mary C. Grosdidier, 70, Scottsdale, Ariz., will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Eudora. Interment will be in Holy Family Cemetery.

Ms. Grosdidier died Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, after a long battle with cancer.

She was born Sept. 26, 1936, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of Dr. Edward J. and Celestine Hedgecock Grosdidier. She graduated from Bishop Ward High School and earned a bachelor of arts degree from Kansas State University and a masters in English from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.

Ms. Grosdidier taught for 30 years on the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona. She later taught in Hawaii, California and Kansas City before returning to Arizona to teach junior high and high school English and English as a Second Language in the Scottsdale school system.

Ms. Grosdidier led discussion groups for two book clubs for more than 25 years. She volunteered five years at the Indian Medical Center; eight years chairing foreign language for the VNSA book sale; and 10 years ushering at the Scottsdale Civic Center.

Survivors include two sisters, Claire Strom, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Teresa Duma, Huntsville, Ala.; five nephews; and three nieces.

Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence was in charge of arrangements.
