Dance team earns honor

June 14, 2007

The Eudora High School dance team recently returned from a National Dance Alliance summer camp, which took place at Emporia State University. Dancers from Kansas and Nebraska were in attendance.

The NDA selects award winners at each of the more than 1,100 camps it administers around the world each summer. The National Spirit Group, a privately held cheer and dance organization, holds events for more than 150,000 cheerleaders and dancers around the world.

The Eudora dancers received the following team awards while at the three-day camp:

For its home routine -- a dance brought to camp -- the Eudora dance team received an "Excellent" rating. The team was also rated on a dance learned in one day and performed the next. The team again earned an "Excellent" rating.

In the team leader competition, Kalen Wright and Abby Reynolds performed a routine and received a bronze award for their performance.

The team also earned a spirit stick every day of camp, earning the right to bring one home and also received a certificate for superior showmanship.

In addition, the girls were evaluated individually, bringing home six blue and six red ribbons.

Team member Abby Reynolds was nominated as an All-American.

The 2007-2008 dance team includes Jo-Jo Snyder, Jamie Johnson, Abby Reynolds, Mai Nguyen, Hayley Bagwell, Jordan Martin, Heather Goodlett, Daigen Shepley, Kalen Wright, Valerie Haag, Sasha Feeman, Cheyenne Bueno and McKaela Kelsey. Robyn Kelso is the coach.
