John H. Hess

1938-2007

Graveside services for John H. Hess, 68, Lawrence, were Wednesday, June 27, at Oak Hill Cemetery with Masonic honors by Lawrence Masonic Lodge No. 6 A.F. & A.M.

Mr. Hess died Saturday, June 23, 2007, at his home.

He was born Sept. 14, 1938, in Lawrence, the son of Ralph Hess Sr. and Ruth Souders Hess.

Mr. Hess served in the U.S. Army for two years. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 226 in Topeka and worked as an electrician at Hercules Powder Plant in De Soto. He also was a member of the Lawrence Masonic Lodge No. 6 A.F. & A.M.

He married Marian Hess on April 14, 1978, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his mother, Baldwin City; two sons, Scott Godfrey and Kenny Hess, both of Lawrence; four daughters, Linda Goff, Jefferson County, Ruth Ann Vermillion, Wichita, Kelly Nelson, Eudora, and Shelly Wise, McLouth; a brother, Ralph Hess Jr., Baldwin City; a sister, Darlene Hess, Lawrence; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hess was preceded in death by his father in 1992 and a son, John H. Hess Jr., in 1964.

The family suggests memorials to the John Hess Memorial Fund, sent in care of the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1260, Lawrence 66044.
