Property assessment forms due
Douglas County taxpayers have until March 15 to file 2007 personal property assessment forms.
Assessment forms were mailed in January to personal property owners. The forms must be signed and returned to the appraiser's office. The completed forms should contain a list of taxable personal property such as boats, jet skis, trailers, mobile homes, airplanes, large trucks, mopeds and business equipment.
Taxpayers who did not receive an assessment form may obtain a form at the appraiser's office. The number to call is 832-5289.
Late filers will be charged a late filing penalty.

What do you think about a proposed ban on smoking in public places such as restaurants, bars and workplaces?
As much as I hate government interfering with our lives, I love the smoking ban. Going out in Lawrence is so nice without smelling cigarette smoke at your table while eating.
