Local church begins capital building campaign

March 29, 2007

First Southern Baptist Church, 1103 Main St., Eudora, will launch a capital building campaign, "Building His Church Together" in April.

The campaign is designed to allow the church to begin a new building project, which will include a worship center, activities center, office space and educational space.

The estimated cost of the proposed new building is $1.6 million. The church hopes to raise more than half of the money needed for the new facilities during its capital campaign.

The new church building will be located on 20th Street where the church has already purchased land.

Building a new church facility has become necessary for First Southern Baptist Church because of limited sanctuary and educational space at the current address. The proposed build will provide a multi-purpose area for worship as well as educational and activities space. The multi-purpose area will provide enough room for 450 people to attend worship activities. An emphasis will also be placed on providing a quality nursery area for infants and toddlers. The church also has numerous small group activities as well as Sunday school.

The church hopes to begin building within two years, and at the latest three years. The projected completion date for the new facility is 2011.
