Ward again bounces Cardinals
May 17, 2007
So maybe last year’s loss burned a little more. Either way, it had the same result. One year after losing to Bishop Ward in the Class 4A state championship game, Eudora’s baseball season was again brought to an end prematurely. The Cardinals fell 10-0 in six innings Wednesday in the semifinals of the regional baseball tournament.

New fire chief keeps training innovative
May 17, 2007
When he got the call, Greg LeRow knew he was in for a long night. He was dispatched May 9 to a backyard fire in the 2200 block of Church Street. As he bunkered up with the other volunteers in the Eudora City Fire Department, he put on the white helmet. It meant he was in charge. He had to coordinate the firefighters in waves to make sure they were safe and rested. He was responsible for finding enough water to keep the fire attack tight.

With tests wrapping up, the high school careers of Eudora High School Student Council President Christina Pyle and Vice President Jessica Stewart are winding down. In the fall, both will enroll at Kansas University to continue their educations. Before donning the cap and gown and officially leaving school, both Pyle and Stewart took time to remember what their career in the school system meant to them and talk about where they might be next.

What seems like only a few years has turned into 11 since I first noticed a petite little girl at the American Cancer Society Relay For Life event in Baldwin. She caught my eye not only because of her sweet face, but because her baldness announced at this particular event she was a cancer survivor.
Time to plan for Church Street improvements
May 17, 2007
Last week during the Eudora Planning Commission’s consideration of a rezoning request for 2.6 acres north of 12th Street and west of Church Street, residents expressed concern about how the new commercial zoning would affect traffic to those two streets and their intersection. The discussion only underscores the obvious: Church Street south of 13th — which remains the same narrow two-lane roadway without curbs, guttering, shoulders or turn lanes as it was before businesses and subdivisions sprung up to its east — is overdue for a major upgrade.
