Seniors receive recognition, scholarships

Eudora High School had its fourth annual senior honors ceremony and dinner May 13 at the school. Students were recognized for honor roll, perfect attendance, scholarships, Kansas Scholars and honor students. Special awards, scholarships from colleges and technical schools and local scholarships were also awarded.

Students in the top 10 percent of the 2007 senior class include Mary Cox, Brittney Graff, Katelin Harrell, Kellian Harrell, Charles Mersmann, Jessica Stewart, Melissa Fernandez, Desiree Marmon, Amelia Bock, Erryn Kindle and Kyle Plaice.

Those who completed the Kansas Scholars recommended curriculum were Mary Cox, Brittney Graff, Kellian Harrell, Erryn Kindle, Desiree Marmon, Charles Mersmann, Kyle Plaice, Todd Roberts. Jessica Stewart, Cole Brouhard, Joey Chino, Ashley Coffman, Melissa Fernandez, Sarah Frehe, Megan Gordon, Amy Green, Chad Haag, Randall Hadl, Katelin Harrell, Justin Male, Mason McCurdy, Samantha Nelson, Ali Nila, Michael Ortega, Stephen Prudden, Jared Reetz, Paige Schultz, Kyle Scrimsher, Katie Stanley, Kent Swanson, Josh Turnbaugh, Glenn Weld, Raymond Wellman, Michael Whitten.

Mary Cox, Brittney Graff, Kellian Harrell, Erryn Kindle, Desiree Marmon, Charles Mersmann, Kyle Plaice and Todd Roberts.

Jessica Stewart were designated as Kansas Scholars for completing the Kansas Scholar curriculum and having a high index score determined by the Board of Regents based on grade point average and ACT score.

Charles Mersmann and Kyle Plaice were recognized by the state as Kansas ACT Scholars for achieving a 32 or higher on the ACT test.

Members of the Senior Advisory were Joey Chino, Mary Cox, Melissa Fernandez, Brittney Graff, Katelin Harrell, Kellian Harrell, Desiree Marmon, Mason McCurdy, Charles Mersmann, Ali Nila, Brittany Pittman, Christina Pyle, Paige Schultz and Jessica Stewart.

Other awards

Outstanding English student -- Amy Green; outstanding science student -- Desiree Marmon; Outstanding Art IV student -- Tim Fredrickson; Outstanding Art student -- Kara Gulley; outstanding Spanish IV student -- Mary Cox; and four years completion award for Spanish went to 17 students: Amelia Bock, Mary Cox, Melissa Fernandez, Justin Male, Samantha Nelson, Michael Ortega, Paige Schultz, Glenn Weld, Ashley Coffman, Megan Gorden, Amy Green, Desiree Marmon, Tasha Oakes, Christina Pyle, Jared Reetz, Caitlyn Riser and Kent Swanson.

Band Awards -- Marine Corps Semper Fidelis Award--James Bruner; John Philip Sousa Award -- Ali Nila

Kansas State University outstanding student in math and science -- Charles Mersmann.

Senior Student Council awards were given to Christina Pyle, president; Jessica Stewart, vice president; Katelin Harrell, secretary; Mary Cox, reporter; Brittney Graff, treasurer, Max Alvarez and David Westerhouse, winter sports coordinators; and Kellian Harrell, Melissa Fernandez and Charles Mersmann, class representatives.

Army Scholar Athlete Award -- Brittney Graff and Erryn Kindle

Marine Corps Awards: Distinguished Athlete Award -- Brittney Graff and Richard Wilks.

Scholastic Excellence Award -- Mary Cox and Charles Mersmann.

Kansas City Star Scholar Athlete Award -- Brittney Graff

Dale M. Dennis Excellence in Education Award -- Mary Cox

Charles Mersmann was named to the Lawrence Journal-World All-Academic Team and Mary Cox and Brittney Graff were honorable mention.

Charles Mersmann was also named to the Topeka Capital-Journal All-State Academic Team honorable mention list.

Brittney Graff and Kent Swanson received the Kansas State High School Activities Association Citizenship awards.

Brittney Graff and Michael Whitten were Wendy's National High School Heisman Scholar-Athlete nominees from Eudora High School.
