USD 491 bond carries
Voters in the Eudora USD 491 approved Tuesday a $45 million bond issue, 874 to 722.
Although Eudora's four precincts split on the referendum, a large pro-bond majority in the new neighborhoods of east and south Eudora helped the referendum carry with 54.76 percent of the vote.
The bond won nearly 71 percent of the vote in the east Eudora Precinct 54 of new subdivisions bounded by Church Street to the west, 10th Street to the north and Kansas Highway 10 to south and east with 266 yes votes to 110 no and won in the new neighborhoods south of Kansas Highway 10, 229-180.
A city of Eudora's charter ordinance, which will allow the mayor to appoint department heads to two year term with the city council's approval, also carried, 602 to 542.
According to unofficial results, 1,600 of 4,649 registered voters participated in the election for a turnout of 34.42 percent.
