Weigh-in earns $1,690 for United Way
The fifth annual spare change challenge between Eudora and Baldwin City raised $1,690 for the United Way of Douglas County.
During the annual "Weigh-in for United Way" fundraising event Oct. 22-25, residents contributed spare change in a competition to see which city could raise the most pounds of money.
The final change collections took place at the annual Baldwin City-Eudora football game Oct. 25 at Baker University.
During halftime of the game, the "Weigh-In for United Way" trophy was awarded to Baldwin City residents for collecting 640 pounds of coins totaling $1,018 for United Way. Eudora residents contributed 418 pounds of coins totaling $672.
The trophy was accepted by Baldwin City High School Student Council President Tess Lyons and Peach and Ted Madl, Co-Chairs for the Baldwin City Division of the 2007 United Way campaign. Representing the Eudora community were Eudora High School Student Council representatives Logan Hartpence, Connor Hartpence, Chelsea Carnagie, faculty sponsor Paul Walrod and the United Way Eudora Division Chair Deborah Becker.
Proceeds from the event will go toward the 2007-2008 United Way campaign, which funds 27 partner agencies in the Douglas County area.
