Volunteer honored

November 29, 2007

The Boy Scouts of America presented Ralena McCurdy with the Silver Beaver Award Nov. 14 at the Heart of America Council's Annual Recognition Dinner at the Kansas City Marriott Muehlebach.

McCurdy was honored for her commitment to provide outstanding service to young people as an adult volunteer in the Girl Scout and Boy Scout programs for more than 42 years. She serves as Venture Crew adviser with Crew 52, St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Eudora. She also has been actively serving Scouting in all of Douglas County on the Pelathe District Committee.

The Silver Beaver Award, first presented in 1931, is presented annually by the Boy Scouts of America and the Heart of America Council and is the highest level of recognition a local Boy Scout council can bestow on a volunteer leader. Individuals are not only recognized for exemplary involvement in Scouting, but also recognized for their leadership in other endeavors to make the community a better place for young people.
