Eudora High track, baseball and softball events originally scheduled for April 10 have been postponed.

One side of the basement in St. Paul United Church of Christ on Sunday afternoon was full of leaping, running, sweating children. But the other side, which houses the Eudora Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry, is not nearly as full as it once was. Some of the cupboards literally are bare, but that’s what the dancing children on the other side hope to change as they practice for the 6th Annual Variety Show to benefit the food pantry.

In its first games of the season, Eudora struggled to make the routine defensive plays necessary to get out of an inning. Now the Cardinals have found a groove in the field, and it has led to an equally impressive performance at the plate.

Mackenzie Salzman’s first two games as a pitcher were solid, but on Saturday the senior looked like a life-long hurler as she one-hit Anderson County to help Eudora pick up a 4-0 victory. A converted outfielder, Salzman was electric on the mound, recording 10 strikeouts without walking a single batter. Eudora lost some of its electricity in game two and fell 7-3.
Planning commission approves EMS site plan

The Eudora Planning Commission April 2 unanimously approved the site plan for the expansion of Eudora Middle School. The middle school expansion will feature a sixth grade pod addition on the south side of the school as well as an enlargement of the commons and kitchen area.

It was the best night of my life. It was better than the December evening in 2006 when I got my journalism degree from Kansas University. It was better than the night KU won the Orange Bowl. And it was better than Saturday night, the night the Jayhawks got redemption against the man - an afterthought now - who double-crossed them. Monday, the night KU won the national championship in college basketball, was a night I will never forget.

Negotiators with the Eudora National Education Association and Eudora USD 491 said Friday’s initial talks were positive and a good way to begin work toward new teaching contracts. “It was a good exchange of ideas,” ENEA Co-President and Middles School English teacher Robert Sailler said.
Eudora man slain in Mexico

An 18-year-old Eudora man was killed in Mexico last month shortly before he was to leave the country, where he had spent most of March visiting friends.

That is what Kansas Small Business Development Center Consultant Mark Buckley told members of the Downtown Eudora Business Association Friday at a meeting. Buckley talked about how to survive during the construction that will come with the downtown revitalization, as well as how to remain vital after the revitalization.

Time to rest was at a premium for the Eudora track team Friday, as coach Phil Katzenmeier had most of his athletes competing in three or four events at the Riley County Invitational. This gave him a chance to see how certain people performed in certain events, and the strategy also netted some positive results in the standings. The girls edged out Riley County to win the meet with 126 points while the boys came in third.
