Aquatics center hosting theme days throughout July
July 3, 2008
Beginning Friday, the Eudora Community Aquatics Center, 1630 Elm St., will have special theme days on each Friday in July.
The pool will celebrate the Fourth of July with free swimming from 1 to 5 p.m. and there will be games and prizes.
On July 11 there will be “Rock Out to the 80s Day,” July 18 will be “Superstar Day” and July 25 will be “Hawaiian Style Day.”
“We’re trying to do some theme days to bring in more families,” Parks and Recreation Director Tammy Hodges said. “We didn’t get a chance to do it last year, but we couldn’t get it scheduled because construction was running late.”
After July, there will be two more special theme days at the pool. There will be a “Back to Books Bash” from 7 to 9 p.m. for middle school students and the Second Annual Furry Friend Day scheduled for Sept. 1, the last day the pool is open.
Last year’s Furry Friend Day, an event that allows people to bring their dogs to the swimming pool from 6 to 7 p.m., was particularly popular.
“We had 50 dogs show up, and that’s a pretty great turn out for the first year,” Hodges said.
Pool attendance got off to a slow start this summer as a result of a high number of cloudy days. However, Hodges said the numbers have gotten better within the last week since sun has been out more.
“On Thursday, you couldn’t see any water — it was all heads,” she said.
The Eudora Community Aquatics Center will open from 1 to 7 p.m. daily until Aug. 16, when it will be open only on the weekends.
