Census shows little growth

Last year before releasing its annual population estimate update, the U.S. Census Bureau readjusted figures from the recent past in an attempt to reflect Eudora’s recent population spike. The result was an estimated increase in the city’s population of 1,031 residents from 4,901 to 6,022. No such adjustment was needed in this year’s figures - which estimated growth from July 1, 2006, to June 30, 2007 - ensuring Eudora’s growth would look far less impressive.

Boy Scout Troop 64 of Eudora attended Camp Naish, near Bonner Springs, the week of June 22-28. Scouts enjoyed a week of hiking, swimming, archery and working on merit badges such as first aid, marksmanship, reptile study and leatherworking. They also enjoyed a family night on Wednesday.
Class of 1968 reunion

The Eudora High Graduating Class of 1968 has announced plans to have its 40th reunion party Saturday, July 26 at Eudora City Hall. The class will gather at approximately 1 p.m. for the annual parade and return to City Hall for more food and fun.

Cardinal football camp upcoming

The 2008 Cardinal Football Camp will be held July 21 through July 25 at the Eudora Middle School practice field. First-through fourth-graders will meet from 8:15 to 9:45 a.m. each day. Fifth and sixth-graders will meet from 10:15 a.m. to noon each day. Ninth-through 12th-graders will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. each day.

USD 491 to keep budget promise

The Eudora USD 491 Board of Education plans to keep its promise to taxpayers in keeping the mill levy flat after an approval of the $45 million school bond last November. The board approved the preliminary budget for the 2008-2009 school year Thursday, which estimated the mill levy at 66.350, compared to last year’s rate of 66.530.

City treasurer retires after 33 years

As a stream of people exited Marge Gronniger’s retirement party Monday at Eudora City Hall, they wished her well after 33 years as Eudora’s treasurer. She would have left the building with them, but she wanted to stay for what would be a two-hour city council meeting. After all, being aware of the things happening in the town she loves is what she would miss most.
