- Eudora’s CPA Picnic will celebrate its 100th year of existence when festivities kick off at 6 p.m. Thursday. Carnival rides and games will be across the street from CPA Park, at the corner of Ninth and Main streets.

- It was a run the team may remember for years to come. With its back against the wall heading into the weekend, Eudora rattled off four straight victories and came within three outs of beating the No. 1 seed and earning a berth in the Kansas Amateur Baseball Association league championship game. The Cardinals were tantalizingly close to the crown, yet few would have predicted them to finish anywhere close to third.

- Ballock battles injury in sophomore year at Pitt

- As a Cardinal, Megan Ballock seldom faced a challenge she didn’t overcome. An All-State athlete on the track and the cross country course, Ballock pushed herself to be the best and punished any opponents who tried to get in her way. As a member of the Pittsburg State University track and cross country teams, the course has steered Ballock in a different direction.

- Although Daniel’s BBQ owner Daniel Hipsher grew up around the barbecue business, he had never participated in any barbecue competitions. But about six years ago when a friend had a member quit his barbecue team, he called Hipsher who at the time managed Daniel’s in Tonganoxie. Hipsher joined and the team received a perfect score in ribs at Kansas Speedway. He has been hooked ever since, taking part in about 20 competitions per year.

- The Eudora High Graduating Class of 1968 has announced plans to have its 40th reunion party Saturday at Eudora City Hall. The class will gather at approximately 1 p.m. for the annual parade and return to City Hall for more food and fun.

- Eudora seems overdue for satellite office

- The Douglas County Treasurer’s Office in recent years has opened satellite offices at various locations in Lawrence. It has also unsuccessfully in the past located such an office in Baldwin City, an endeavor it is giving another attempt with a site in the Baldwin grocery store.
- More work planned for Church St.

- Construction will further tighten its grip on Eudora roads for about two weeks in early fall when Douglas County does a mill and overlay of Church Street. The $120,000 project will stretch just a little more than half a mile, beginning at the ramps on the bridge over Kansas Highway 10 and ending at 10th Street.

As much as I hate government interfering with our lives, I love the smoking ban. Going out in Lawrence is so nice without smelling cigarette smoke at your table while eating.
